Dominique Wilkins proved he still has the hops while Allan Caidic showed he can still pull the trigger from beyond the arc.
The NBA Generations thumped the PBA All-Stars, 109-86, in their exhibition game Friday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Dominique Wilkins topscored with 28 points and led the NBA Generations, spicing up the first half with a copule of lay-ups and slam dunks.
Caidic, nicknamed The Triggerman during his heyday, told INQUIRER.net that he was not starstrucked playing against the NBA.
“We’re very excited to play with them.We just enjoyed playing side by side with the NBA stars,” said Caidic, who scored a total of 15 points.
The halftime ended 46-41 in favor of the NBA squad.
The game, however, tilted in favor of the visiting team in the second half.
Robert Horry, known for his clutch shooting leading to championships for the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rocketsn, also poured triples during the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, NBA D-league players, led by Chris Ellis and Marcus Hubbard, took over and left the audience in awe with an array of slam dunks.
Their assistant coach, NBA legend Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who is in his fourth visit to the Philippines, said during the halftime break that he wanted to see a lot more beaches and islands in the Philippines.
“I see that a lot of fans (here) love the game,” he said.
Wilkins, meanwhile, admitted he had a hard time running the length of the court. “It’s been a long time since I last played,” he said.
Caidic apparently stood out, the former San Miguel ace creating a lasting impression in Jabbar.
“Caidic did a great job. As long as a player can shoot like that, you want a player like him on your team,” Jabbar said.
After the game, Coach Rory White told the media that they enjoyed their play against the PBA-All Stars.
“This was a great opportunity especially for the NBA Development League. I told them to work hard and they showed it,” said White
He added: “Filipinos have the potential to play in the NBA as long as they train hard and work hard. Anything is possible as long as you put your heart into it.”
Before coming to the Philippines, the NBA Generations played against the Incheon Etland Elephants in South Korea, crafting a 94-82 victory. Izah Morales – INQUIRER.net
